Bloody Mary is on Supernatural

I had previously put a post about Bloody Mary being on Ghost Whisperers but i found her on another popular TV series, Supernatural. I believe that Bloody Mary is an urban legend that has many different versions. In Ghost Whisper, Bloody Mary was a young girl who was very sick, she had a disease called Diphtheria, which eventually put her into a coma. Her father who was the doctor at the time buried her alive to keep her quarantined from the rest of the town, but that ended up killing her later on. But in this episode they explain that Bloody Mary was a young woman named Mary Worthington, she was a 19-year-old women from Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was a local beauty pageant queen and dreamed of escaping Indiana (because no one wants to do that) to pursue her dream as a famous actress but that dream was canceled by a man named TR3, he supposedly murdered Mary because she was having an affair with him. She had threatened to tell his wife, so he broke into her apartment and killed her. But that wasn’t it, he then cut her eyes out with a knife. This vicious murder had lead her spirit to kill anybody who summoned “Bloody Mary” in front of a mirror (because that’s where she was killed, in front of a mirror). Most urban legends state that she scratched the eyeballs out of whoever dare summon her, but in this episode, they add a little twist. If someone summons Bloody Mary and have somehow been involved in the killing of another individual, they will be killed. This twist is very clever because mirrors are said to reveal all your lies, sin and is a true reflection of your soul. Hence why Mary can see who has secrets/lies through there soul in the mirror.

The reason why I had posted another video, which included Bloody Mary in the storyline is because like i said in my ‘About’ post, I’m an avid movie watcher and I believe that a majority of you would rather watch an episode of a show like this than read some boring post about another rendition of this urban legend. Plus, the main characters are pretty cute, so why wouldn’t you want to see it? ๐Ÿ˜‰

How to cite an Article in a Scholarly Journal

When I was in Comm210 I had to write numerous Bibliographies, but these are different. They are scholarly articles/journals. I was a little shaken up by the whole “Scholarly Article/Journal” citation because I had no idea how to cite them, but thank goodness we have Purdue Owl. Based off their website, they have a simple breakdown with examples of how to cite an Article in a Scholarly Journal.

Author(s). “Title of Article.” Title of Journal Volume.Issue (Year): pages. Medium of publication.

Bagchi, Alaknanda. “Conflicting Nationalisms: The Voice of the Subaltern in Mahasweta Devi’s Bashai Tudu.” Tulsa Studies in Women’s Literature 15.1 (1996): 41-50. Print.

Duvall, John N. “The (Super)Marketplace of Images: Television as Unmediated Mediation in DeLillo’s White Noise.” Arizona Quarterly 50.3 (1994): 127-53. Print.

Bloody Mary on Ghost Whispers

I recently watched a episode of Ghost Whispers on Netflix. The episode was titled “Don’t try this at Home.” The episode was based on the urban legend of Bloody Mary. I actually found this episode to be very interesting. The had explained that Bloody Mary was a young girl who was very sick, she had a disease called Diphtheria, which eventually put her into a coma. Her doctor had made the decision to bury her because her disease was extremely contagious and they wanted to keep her away from the public. In addition, they tied a string around her wrist and attached to a bell above the ground, so if she ever woke up the bell would ring and her parents come to rescue her. But the night that she woke up, her parents were intoxicated and didn’t hear the bell. The next morning they came to check up on their daughter and realized that the bell was on the ground. They immediately began trying to dig her out, but they were too late. Their daughter was dead. They then realized that on the inside of the coffin there were bloody claw marks all over the lid. This is just one of many of Bloody Mary stories, but this particular story has similarities to others around the world.

After watching this episode I found the most interesting part of this was when they mentioned that with most legends including this one, they are bent to fit local lore, they change the story based on the area they take place in. They also stated that no matter where the legend takes place, the only common piece of this urban legend is the mirror. Mirrors are said to be gateways to our dimension and others. That being said, they think that Bloody Mary uses the mirrors to draw people into her dimension so that she will never be alone.

I know you may think that this is just a stupid episode of Ghost Whispers and has no useful information in it, but after further research on Bloody Mary and the Mirrors, some of the information given was factual.
